How to Overclock Latest Cyanogen Mod 7, update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyMini-KANG-signed-17112011.zip

There are many overclocking kernels available out there and each one being specific for each release of cyanogen mod 7.1.0 rom. While you may find that most of the Overclocking Kernels developed for other releases of cm7 also work with the latest and the stable version of cm7 released on November 17, the developer recommends that you use these overclocking kernels exclusive to the latest cm7 version as previous versions might not be fully compatible with the latest release of cyanogen mod rom. Also, these OC Kernels are full of features and I/O Schedulers so you are in profit.

So, here we begin. First of all, download and install latest cyanogen mod 7.1.0 on your galaxy mini/pop, if you haven't done it already. Then all you have to do is get right overclocking kernels for your device then flash them in clock work mod recovery. Download one overclocking kernel from below that can be handled successfully by your device and then follow the steps given to overclock your galaxy mini.

Download Links for Overclocking Kenels:

How to install the Overclocking Kernels?
1. Make sure you download an OC kernel of your choice from above.

2. Copy the downloaded zip file (named samrtboot-XXXMhz-fs.zip) to your SD Card.

3. Reboot your galaxy mini gts5570 into clock work mod recovery.

4. Select (with Home button) Flash zip from sdcard>>Choose Zip from sd card>> and then select the file you copied earlier to your sd-card.

5. Wait till it finishes flashing the overclocking kernels. Once it is done reboot your device.

That's it you have successfully flashed OC kernels for your latest cm7 and now have the most fast and stable custom rom for your device. To your surprise with these overclocking kernels you can now set your CPU clock speed directly from the Set CPU option in Clockwork Mod Settings in your galaxy mini Settings. There you can set CPU clock speed to your preference and also select and set CPU governors as required. But, to utilize another feature of these OC Kernels, which are I/O Schedulers you will need to use No Frills CPU Control app from the market. It is freely available there.

And, that was all about how to successfully improve your galaxy mini's speed and performance by overclocking your CPU to a more higher frequency. If you have any doubts regarding it or are stuck in the process, please fell free to ask for help in the comments below.

  7. coomar, I guess it is a long way till the time we will get Android OS 4 (also known as Ice Cream Sandwich) on our Galaxy Mini/Pop samrtphone. The first possible date Ice Cream Sandwich will be released won't be before at least 2 months. After that there is a chance we will get android 4, but it is just a probability.

  8. renoelmarco, You can try and see if it works. Make sure you do a nandroid backup first. Though it works, I suggest you use these one http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/11/overclocking-kernels-for-latest.html for overclocking. Choose whichever you want both work on Music Edition v1.1 too.

  18. man can i ask something?when im openning apps or testing the rom speed its forced closing!i downloaded the newest cm7-171120011 update same whit the overclock kernel 782mh!can you tell me what to do?but dont worry besides that everything works perpectly!its only force closing sometimes ^_^!thanks for advance!

    ReplyDelete
  19. mike14,
Maybe it's because you didn't wipe data and cache after flashing CM7. If you are getting force closes then try doing a fresn install (wiping data also). Also, you might try lower frequency OC Kernels and see if it solves the problem.

  20. Yagya do u have any link of overclocking kernal 800mhz or above for cyanogen 7.2rc2(galaxy mini)? if u have then plz give it here!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Annie, Overclocking Kernels above 800 MHz are not build for this rom or for CM7 RC2. Don't worry they will be built in near future. Also, I will surely tell you all when they are out so keep tuned (via RSS or get updates by following me on Facebook.)

  24. rc4 running very fast and smooth with oc kernel's. just a question though. why is it modern combat sandstorm wont run on cm7. mc sandstorm running perfectly on music edition 1.1. does it has something to do with flash support? Im not sure what's going on here. thanks to everyone. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  25. ezrha12,

I am not sure why you are unable to run it in RC4. Also, it would have been much help if you have supplied the details of the error. But, since you said it works on ME 1.1, it should work on this too. I suggest you try installing again or download the whole zip again, since your apk/zip might be corrupted.

  26. hi. may i know what is clocking ,the advantages & disadvantages, what does the speed indicates?
maybe you can try to blog about this?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sunset in Dawn,
Overclocking is the process of increasing your CPU Clock's speed/frequency to a higher frequency than it is currently. In simple terms overclocking increases the Max CPU speed of your device that can increase your device's speed by some factors. It's just like installing a higher frequency (2 GHz) CPU on a 1 GHz CPU, but here we do this with the help of software/kernel hack (it is possible since 600MHz CPU means it is stable at 600Mhz not that it's maximum is 600 MHz. IN such case max can be (or is) slightly higher then 600 Mhz and by overclocking you utilize this capacity.

So, you can guess it's advantages pretty easily. DIsadvantages include overclocking to a higher frequency than you device can handle may increase the temperature of your device gradually making it hot and melting the battery or even making your device unusable.

However, ever frequency are tested by many and work fine for most users (if not all). The speed/frequency indicates that the max you can set if you download that Kernel and flash it. 753 MHz is recommended since it is stable for almost all galaxy mini devices. You mightn't have any problem with it.

Hope your doubts are clear. Happy Learning.

To get android market and other google apps you need to flash appropriate gapps. You can do so at this article :

  30. Thank you for the info man.....i followed your blog for all my installs....will high frequencies reduce battery time?? cause after flashing cm7 i saw a fall in my battery life(slight)...and after flashing 784mhz i can reduce the cpu frequency using some apps(when i dont need the power) for battery, right??

    ReplyDelete
  31. Ravi,
Yes you are right, more frequency means more power generation and it uses more battery. SO, you can use No Frills to adjust the frequency as requirement. Also, setting governor as kickassv2 or kickass will do the same thing (automatically) for you.

    ReplyDelete
  32. no i mean before overclocking it....i thought cynogenmod improves the battery life and performance.....but i like this im not goin back...need to find a way to suit my requirements.....can u suggest me any other kernels that save battery

  33. i found your post abt battery life...ignore my previous comment....i think ill try emanoN

  34. my Galaxy mini is rooted and is on 2.3.6(India) ... if it is flashed with CM7 , will it remain rooted or i have to root it again .. if i have to root it again , procedure plzz

    ReplyDelete
  35. Subramanya,
The procedure is here in this blog only, just search for it. And, no need to root again after you falsh CM7. Infact they come pre-rooted (meaning, even if you don't have a rooted rom after falshing custom roms they will be rooted automatically).

  40. Go back to CWM recovery and then chose wipe data and wipe cache option. Also, go to Advance Menu and select Wipe Dalvik Cache option and then reboot. It might take some time during first reboot so be patient.

  41. I have black screen with android help me pls i dont get it how it works on the other comment :(

    ReplyDelete
  42. Did you tried this overclocking kernel? If so maybe your device is unable to handled the max CPU you set before rebooting your device. If you did so and it is happening because of that flash CM7 rom again. However, if you haven't set anything like that then go back to CWM recovery and do a data wipe and cache and then reboot and wait few minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oh sorry forgot to delete the comment i fixed it with flashing to 2.3.4. But thank you for the fast anwers :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well.. It's ok. BTW, if you want you can give official CM7 a try. Find it at the homepage and follow the instructions.
