Cyanogen Mod 9.0.0 Beta 3 For Galaxy Mini/Pop GT-S5570 Smartphone

Yesterday, I posted about CM9 for Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 Smartphone and since then I have got many questions regarding a stable Cyanogen Mod 9 for Samsung Galaxy Mini as well. So, here I have today the Cyanogen Mod 9 rom based on Android 4.0.3 Operating System for Galaxy Mini/Pop GT-S5570 smart phones. So, if you have got galaxy mini then it's flashing time now. Thanks to the developer, squadzone for his quick act on releasing another beta update for his Ice Cream Sandwich based Cyanogen Mod 9 custom rom for galaxy pop/mini. This Beta 3 release seems to be quite better than the previous releases but, still it has many glitches that are yet to be fixed.

So, below is an overview of what's working and what's not in this rom.

What's Working?
CM9 Home Screen On Galaxy Pop/Mini
  • Booting fine.
  • Touch Screen (multitouch)
  • WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth
  • Audio and Video
  • Graphics.
  • All Sensors (Auto-rotation, proximity, accelerometer, etc.).
  • GSM Functions (Call/SMS/Mobile Data).
  • Keypad
  • Google Apps (Market, YouTube, etc.). Make sure you flash Google Apps (gapps for ics zip file) in clockwork mod recovery.
  • Hardware Acceleration (Sometimes screen flickers).
  • USB Mass Storage *
  • USB Tethering *
  • Wireless Tethering *
  • Widgets, Wallpapers, etc work fine. Live Wallpapers from system doesn't work but you can download from market and use them.
  • Browser.
* : Work with third party apps. For USB Storage use USBMassStorageToogle.apk by bexton (many thanks to him). For Tethering use Wired Tether and Wireless Tether app from market.

What's Not Working?
  • Camera
  • FM Radio
So, there are the things that are working in this latest Cyanogen Mod 9 beta 3 release. Below are some of the features of this latest custom rom.
  • New Kernel with genlock, support for IPv4 and IPv6, new feature Net-filter, audio Loop, new audio driver, zcache and overclocking features up to 864 MHz with different governors.
  • Cyanogen Mod Settings from CM7 merged (not all, only some).
  • Soft Buttons added at the bottom of the screen for navigation.
  • Many bug fixes and other improvements.
So, now after this review I am sure you are anxious to give to Ice Cream Sandwich based CM9 a try. But, before you actually flash this rom on your galaxy pop/mini gt-s5570 handset, I recommend you view some of these screenshots of CM9 Beta3 rom here (I will upload soon). And once you are ready to give this rom a try, follow the instructions from below carefully.

Additional Zips/Updates
So, that's all. You have successfully installed latest Cyanogen Mod 9 Beta 3 rom on your Samsung Galaxy Pop/Mini GT-S5570 smartphone. The developer recommends that you set both Windows Animations Scale and Transitions Animations Scale to the value 1.5x or above in Settings-->Developer Options as well as set Max Frequency around 710MHz in Settings-->Peformance-->Processor-->Max CPU Frequency. Also, for Google Apps like Gmail, Youtube, etc, flash the Google Apps For ICS from this article. You can also use the gapps from the Updates section above.

So, once you have configured your galaxy mini/pop properly please take some time to explorer this latest CM9 rom throughly and get the real taste of Ice Cream Sandwich OS and then let us know how you feel about this rom at the comments below. Also, don't hesitate to ask for help if you have any doubts. P.S. Don't forget to say thanks to the developer at this development thread on xda-forums if you like his work and want to encourage him.

  1. Tried it and like it! Except with the camera probs, everything is to my taste. There are glitches when you open menu but doesnt really matter. Anyways a wonderful rom. The only thing i dont get is how to set up a wallpaper (static) so that u can slide to the rest of the picture in home page. Will wait for stable release! Thanks for your wonderful work yagya. btw did you try it yet?

  7. I'll list some problems i found till now :

    1. Cannot import all contacts from sim - need to do 1 by 1 selection
    2. flickering of screen when menu button is pressed
    3. The locked interface shows a black strip where the ICS soft buttons are.
    4. cannot see what you type in sms if u dont use rotate (landscape view)
    5. The sms feature does not recognise your contacts easily
    6. Auto correction cannot be disabled ( doesn't work for me )
    7. Obviously camera and radio not available
    8. I find battery to discharge rapidly since task managing is by default not so   good.

Otherwise the rom seems fine. Its still in beta phase so bugs are likely to be present. But its a great step forward. We just need to wait for a stable release.

  10. what about stable version?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Stable version is a long way through many alpha and beta builds and the developer is working on it. Be patient and happy with what you have at the moment.

  12. Flash the rom again to fix the problem. Or, you can flash the update to disable soft buttons from article above (updated today) but it will increase flickering.

  13. I have Galaxy Mini currently with official Android 2.2, I was thinking of upgrading to official 2.3 because it is supposed to have built-in VoIP (SIP) client and work longer on battery. I've heard that CyanogenMod's 9 advantages are Android 4 and more space for programs. What about battery life and VoIP? I am aware this is beta.

In my case will it be better to go for original 2.3, CyanogenMod 7 or CyanogenMod 9?

    Thank you :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Which ever rom either CM7 or CM9 you want to install require you to first upgrade to 2.3 so, first of all upgrade your firmware to 2.3 and then you can use CM7 for now. CM9 is in beta and has many bugs, also battery is not that good in CM9.

  15. what the reason developer cannot fix camera and radio for CM9 until now?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I strongly warn you don't ask such questions here; you are due to hurt the developer if hr is gig through the article and comments. If you think you can fix it then please join then at the github otherwise be quite and let them do the work and wait for them to complete.

I hope it's clear and you won't repeat this from next time. Regards, Yagya.

  18. As far as I know, The phone should work fine. So did wipe data and cache after flashing them ROM. Also, wrote dalvik cache and see if calling works fine now. Or, maybe it's a bug and you ought to wait for the next release.

  23. my USB doesn't work in 1cs4 ported in mini by squadzone ..can u tell me how to connect n transfer data here cuz kies wont detect my device ! its a damm big mess

    ReplyDelete
  24. What is 1cs4 ? In this rom, you can't connect to the USB Mass storage to transfer data. So, switch to CyanogenMod 9 Beta 4. It has many fixes and the USB Storage also works with a third party app.

  25. i've flashed it but it stucks on "Android" for a long time..
    has it soft-bricked?
    please help!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. No not bricked. Simply go to recovery and wipe data and cache and it will be solved. You'll need to wait for few minutes during first boot after installation.
