Upgrade to Latest Cyanogenmod/Gingerbread 2.3.7 on Samsung Galaxy Mini GTS5570

UPDATE!!! Latest version of cyanogen mod, update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-tass-KANG-signed-21102011.zip, is available for download. Click here to download it.

Cyanogen Mod v7.1.0 RC1 developed for our Samsung Galaxy Mini has reached a more higher and stable level. While this rom was first based on gingerbread 2.3.4 operating system, the development and bug fixing process led it to a new level. The latest cyanogen mod rom is based on gingerbread 2.3.7 and you can flash it right away on your Samsung Galaxy Pop/Mini GTS5570 smart phone.

While the latest release has many bug fixes including mic and call bugs, audio-video bug, and other bugs that were found by huge members of xda community, it still lacks the overclocking kernels. Some of those who uses their samrt phone for playing games and other heavy users might not want to flash this rom as there are no any over clocking kernels but trust me this rom is very fast and stable and I'm quite sure it can even handle all your gaming needs. Other improvements along with major bug fixes include but not limited to wifi and bluetooth fixes, camera orientation fixes, HQ video support and fabulous looking lock screen. You can download the latest cm7 from this link http://download.andro-id.net/ROMS/GT-S5570/Cyanogenmod/update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyMini-KANG-signed-01102011.zip.

Existing users can follow the steps below to flash it successfully by following these simple steps while new Cyanogen Mod 7 users are requested to go through Flashing Cyanogen Mod v7.1.0 in Samsung Galaxy Mini article. If you don't want to do a clean and fresh install you can skip steps  6 to step 9 to but it is recommended that you follow all the step and do a clean install as I found that the Dark Tremor A2SD script is not functioning after you flash latest CM7. There might be other script that might not be functioning too (but, hasn't found any except APPS2SD).

1. Download the latest Cyanogen Mod 7 or Gingerbread 2.3.7 rom from the link given above.

2. Copy it to your sdcard and then reboot your smart phone in recovery mod.

3. Backup your existing rom from clock work mod recovery menu>>Backup and restore>>Backup option.

4. Flash new cm7. Go to CWM Menu>>Install zip from sdcard>>Choose zip from sdcard and then select the file you downloaded earlier.

5. Wait till it finishes installing the update. [You can just wipe cache and start using the latest Cyanogen Mod 7, but that's not recommended.]

6. Wipe data and cache and then reboot your device.

7. Now flash Dark Tremor Apps to SD script. If you are not sure what or how to do, please read 'Partitioning SD Card and Installing Darktremor Apps2SD Script on Android Smartphone' article. [You can skip the partitioning part given there as you have already partitioned your sdcard, but instead  format your sd-ext partition from CWM Menu>>mounts and storage>>Format /sd-ext option.

8. Now that you have installed Darktremor A2SD Script you can install apps one by one manually or restore them using the titanium or any other backup you did earlier.

9. That's all you have successfully upgraded, to the latest gingerbread 2.3.7 (aka Cyanogen Mod 7) rom.

With the help of root explorer and APPS2SDGUI application (or you can use terminal commands) check to make sure that your Dark tremor APP2SD is working and data are actually stored in sd-ext partition. Also, this release contains all the bug fixes so no need to flash any knid of zip files. But, you sure need to copy the two useful cifs.ko and tun.ko modules to /system/lib/modules folder. Also, there is a chance we might get Over Clocking Kernels for latest CM7, but wait patiently till then. This might be the last release of CM7, so enjoy flashing for the last time. All the Best!!!

UPDATE!!! 12 October, 2011 Latest Cyanogen mod is released and Market fix included for those who are having trouble installing market and other Google apps in CM7.

For those who have problem of market and other Google apps being disappeared, you need to flash gapps in CWM recovery as you did with Cyanogen Mod rom. Download the gapps from http://goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip or you can get latest version from here. Now, copy it to your sd card and reboot your device in recovery mode. Flash it in recovery using Install zip from sdcard option and reboot. You will be prompted to add Google account at the first boot and select Google apps from a long list including Google maps, G-mail, You Tube, Facebook, talk back, Market, etc.

Also, A latest version of Cyanogen Mod 7.1 (October 09) is available for you to download and try. While I had problem with wifi in this latest release, other are using it fine without problem. So, you can give it a try if you want. Download update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyMini-KANG-signed-09102011.zip and flash it in clock work mod recovery as above. Also, it has some problems with gps so, you are required to flash this zip file for fixing gps. Other are working perfectly fine so give it a go.

Also, you can check  for a more later version of cyanogen mod 7 rom at this link. Just see the date on the file name to know when it is released.

  7. Hey Anonymous, Apps really depend on user's type and requirement. While someone might be interested on gaming apps and other might be on reading or informative app. I personally use greader pro, aldiko premium, root explorer and manager, app monster, 4shared mobile, dolphin browser, ninjump and doodle jump, Sudoku, darktremor apps2sd, fora dictionary, real calculator, blackmart alpha, wifi and wired tether, adobe flash player and some more apps. I think these all are the best app in their field. I mean alsiko is best for reading, greader is best for rss reading, and so on.

  8. @Jochem: All the best!!! and Good Luck...

@Kiss Ivatan: Sorry, but these all are specific app problem and i can't tell you their cause or solution.( i haven't used any of them, i suggest you try to find alternatives app). But, I am sure you can install more widgets in CM7 than that. try doing it again. Also, reflashing and wiping data and cache might solve the problem...

    ReplyDelete
  9. Thanx! I try searching alternatives on my old apps. When comes is the overclocking kernel ca.?

  10. Don't know! Right now what we can do is wait patiently, nothing more than that. It takes time to do the work, Don't it? So, wait patiently.

  15. Please tell me a little more about the back up process, step by step.
And does it backup all the apps from both phone and sd, their market link, app data, contacts and settings?
Do I have to reset and clear cache before I install this rom? Do I have to format my sd card as well?
Also will I still be able to use android market after I flash this rom?
And instead of using the Darktremor script, can I just use install manager pro to move apps to sd after I have flshed this rom?

  17. hello josh, welcome!!! There are two things you can try at this point one is simply flash the latest CM7 from CWM recovery and wipe cache and reboot. Or, (if it doesn't work)
    1. Flash Gingerbread using Odin. (its the same procedure as upgrading to gb. ALso, use your phone for some while after flashing.
    2. Flash CWM recovery in Odin.
    3. Now in CWM recovery, wipe data and cache.
    4.Flash CM7 from CWM recovery.
    5. Wipe cache, reboot and wait (5-15 min)
Use your phone when it reboots.

    ReplyDelete
  18. ok thanks will give going back to gingerbread a go.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Josh, You need to flash this gapps in CWM recovery to get market, gmail and other google applicaitons. Download from goo-inside.me/gapps/gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip

hm.. can i overclock this rom in galaxy mini with 1gb CPU ?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yes, Overclocking is possible (but may not be upto 1GHz) but, not now. Overclocking Kernels for this latest CM7 rom are still being developed, so wait till they are released. Then you can overclock according to your preference.

Also, don't use OC of previous version they don't work with this version of CM7.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Those who are having problem installing Darktremor A2SD script please use s2e instead. Here's the link for you to get started,

    ReplyDelete
  42. Colz, Yes, you can directly flash 'update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyMini-KANG-signed-01102011.zip' rom. Just make sure you have gingerbread 2.3.4 and flash any cm7 you like.

  43. Hi! I use now emanoN rom with OC kernel. Can i now install with CWM the new CM ROM?

And the Mohammad Faisa writes OC kernel is realy work with the new CM ROM?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Kiss, Yes you can install it. DOn't forget to wipe data and cache. And, also make sure you back important data and apps before flashing CM7.

Sorry, but I haven't tried the OC said by Mobammad. But, since he told it works you sure can give it a try.

Also, if you need OC here is the latest CM7 with OC... You can also give it a try. I am waiting for OC by the original developer so haven't tested either. Translate the page using google translate if you have difficulty in viewing it:

  48. Gibon, no need to install GPS Fix for this --if gps if not working then you might try it. And as you can see someone has already flashed it, so you can flash it too if you want. Make sure you do a nandroid backup of your rom incase you want to return back.

Also, there is a solution to this problem (OC kernels) in comments please search for it.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I will take it as a suggestion. But, I read most comments here (As and when my time permits). As you can see Mohammad says he found OC for this and it is working so, you can give it a try.

  58. By the way, tested all of them. None worked. Phone kept booting again and again. Even the unofficial newer version. Ended up just using this rather than the 2.3.5 OCed. None worked of all the OCs above tested and tried in every possible angle.

    ReplyDelete
  59. If you want OC you can use older CM7s. And also, are they telling in air. You might have done something wrong. Also, its better to wait for OC to be released ...

  66. Jaga, wipe cache and Dalvik cache in recovery. Also, are you unable to download only large games and apps or any apps from the market. If you are not able to download large apps from market its because of the limitation of our download cache partition, you can try downloading it in computer and installing from there.

If you are unable to download any apps, reflash CM7 after wiping cache, data and Dalvik cache. Make sure to do a nandroid backup first. And then install gapps.

  70. Do i really need to partition my sd card? The titanium backup works without partitioning the sd card?
    CAN I SKIP STEPS 7 and 8?
    Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  71. As I said in Step 5,
You can just wipe cache and start using the latest Cyanogen Mod 7 --I thought it was clear enough, anyway you can skip all steps below this.

These steps are only for those who are partition their sd-card. I included it here because one of the many reasons people upgrade to CM7 (custom rom) is for partitioning sd-card and installing applications on secondary partition to solve the low internal memory problem. If you were the one to install and try out many apps (aka app geek) you would know what I mean.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Got it! Thank you! I would just say i'll try it because from what i see it's better that the Gingerbread 2.3.4 and i don't really use so much apps, that's way i was asking to skip steps 7 and 8.
    Thank you again!

    ReplyDelete
  74. You are welcome!!! Yay, It is better to have bigger capacity sd-card because you won't be able to use partitioned memory as external memory. Your device will recognize it as internal memory.

I click update or upgrade and now it shows me " TSP IC firmware version: 07". I flashed a lot of official roms and hard reset my phone since i made that mistake but nothing changed.
PLEASE if it's a way to update that "TSP IC" again, HELP ME!
    Thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Yackman, On which firmware did you do so? I suggest you flash your original(your region's) froyo firmware and then upgrade to gingerbread again... I have never faced such error, thus don't know much about it. I also suggest you Google for the solution if it is not solved after flashing original firmwares. Finally, you ought to seek help from Samsung service center, they might know about it. If you flash your original firmware then you might even be able to claim warranty.

And for USB tethering you will need to use wired tether (its free). Not so sure easy tether works or not, cause I don't use USB tethering. But, it sure works with wired tether.

  82. ive a uniqe problem guys.a month ago i rooted my device to gingerbread 2.3.3 then after flashing a rom named andro-Id 3.1 signed version, my android version has changed into 2.3.4 automatically mind it i rooted for 2.3.3 but after installing rom it has changed into 2.3.4 .is it genuin or normal or not ?? yagya, i want to skip step 6 to 9 u mentioned above .now can i flash cm7.1 rom on my phone over my stupid previous rom.am gonna download it plllz reply as early as possible

    ReplyDelete
  83. Zahid, it is because Andro-id rom is based on GB 2.3.4 so your android version has changed to 2.3.4 from 2.3.3.

Yes, you can skip steps 6 to 9 and flash CM7 but, before that you will need to flash back to gingerbread 2.3.4. Then flash CWM recovery and then CM7 from CWW recovery..
You can upgrade/flash GB 2.3.4 from here:

  89. Dejan, Thanks!! Yes, you can install flash player. Read this:
    http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/10/adobe-flash-player-for-android-smart.html

And, that Google map is to install via ADB from your computer, but don't know if it works by flashing in CWM recovery or not. Since it is a zip file you can flash and see if it works for yourself!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Tomas - i had this problem first time i tried to boot CM7. I ended up having to go back to gingerbread, using that for a while (half a day), then trying CM7 again. remember to clear your caches!

  94. good morning )) again me ... could u tell me how to use ADB ?? realy appreciate !!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Thomas, sorry for late reply. Was out for some Diwali treats/fun... Anyway, make sure you wipe data and cache as well as Dalvik Cache (Advance>>Wipe Dalvik Cache) in Recovery after flashing CM7 and then reboot your device.

Dejan, To use ADB you need to download it first and then run from command. If you would like I will write an article on it. But, it will take time, so, you might want to visit few days later. Or, maybe you cna subscribe to the posts or follow this blog so that you can get all the latest updates directly on your RSS reader or Google reader.

  96. ok, i got it bro, thank you very much. but i have some questions, can i just reinstall my market by flashing Gapps? because im experiencing that log in problem/loop(that captcha and login password thing). and also, i think i successfully partitioned my SD and i gave it 2GB capacity, but, when i look at my internal/phone memory, it says 170mb and when i install apps, it goes down, y is that? was it normal???

    ReplyDelete
  97. Tomas, Go ahead and try that if you want, but, i don't think it will have any effect. And what log in problem or captcha are you talking about... It is just one time job.. Make sure you have internet>>Flash gapps>>Follow the onscreen commands and enter your google account details and then proceed to finally click Finish. It will download google apps and install them for you.

Also, if you partitioned your sdcard it won't be added to internal storage. To see you have partitioned successfully or open root explorer and see if you have /sd-ext folder. Also, you can open it and check its size to match the one you choosed (2 GB). And only partitioning won't move apps to sdcard. You need to install darktremor a2sd or s2e. Then your apps will automatically go to sd-ext folder.

Kiss Istvan, OC will come soon. You can check out latest updates at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Yagya/272554696116178 or updates page in this blog.

  100. I did everything as specified without inserting my sim...
the phone booted up properly and nothing was wrong...
after than I inserted my sim and booted it up and it keeps restarting...
so what should I do now??

    ReplyDelete
  101. I removed everything and re-flashed with my sim card in but still as soon as I enter my sim unlock pin my phone restarts!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Fatin, the video tutorial you downloaded might be for other devices. Make sure you have GB 2.3.4 then you have to install CWM recovery. Now in it flash CM7. It will take few seconds and then wipe data and cache and then select reboot. After about 5-10 minutes your phone will completely boot up and that's it. You have CM7.

Anonymous, please use your name. Is you phone carrier/sim unlocked. Also, did you follow all steps carefully.. Ok! Try once again. Flash GB> Flash CWM REcovery>Flash CM7>Wipe Data and cache>Reboot.

  103. Yagya, thanks!
Forget about the Market, i just reinstalled it.
i dont think i successfully partitioned my mem, coz i dont see any sd ext folder, and MY INTERNAL IS DECREASING EVERTYM I INSTALL. its the main reason why i switched to CM7. i followed all
the instructions carefully and succesfully flashed dtapps2sd-2.7.5.3-beta04-signed.zip. and saw this tag: /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 on /sd-ext type ext3 (rw,noatime,nodiratime,barrier=1,nodelalloc,data=ordered)
on my terminal, but how come its using my internal memory for apps?? am i missing something, please let me know... and also, what is this cifs.ko and tun.ko modules for?? can you tell me, coz i think these are what im missing... THANK YOU YAGYA

    ReplyDelete
  104. Thomas, your internal memory will increase a little even if you install a2sd its because your Dalvik Cache is still in intenal memory. To move it to sd-ext run 'a2sd cachesd' command in terminal. Also, you can check if you have a2sd installed or not by running a2sd check command. And Cifs.ko and tun.ko are not for a2sd. You can learn more about them from wikipedia; I have even given the links on some comments that you can search for. Also, since you mounted it partition correctly I think you have sd-ext folder. Its on the root (/) directory. Try using App2sdGUI app from market. It will say if you have apps on sd-ext or on internal memory.
And, please ask a2sd questions on Darktremor post @ http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/09/how-to-partition-sd-card-and-install.html

    Cheers

    ReplyDelete
  108. Daniel, CM7 09102011 was the latest at the time of writing. But, now I see the one you have told, CM7 21102011.zip is also available so it is the latest. You can download latest CM7 October 21 from here --if you haven't already:

I can´t modify the Min or Max CPU frequency, can you point me in the right direction do get more out of my phone please?

    ReplyDelete
  110. To Overclock your Device you need to use NoFrills app from market. You can't use the option in CM7 as this OC is not integrated into the CM7 rom/kernel by the developer. Read more about OC at http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/11/overclocking-kernels-for-latest.html

  113. Sunil & Anil, It sometimes take 20+ minutes to boot make sure you are patient enough.. Also, You must flash it using CWM recovery and wipe data and cache after flashing and reboot your phone. You can try flashing old CM7 releases then upgrade later to latest version... Flash a few times again and see your luck.

  121. I recently moved to latest CM7 and started facing issues.
    1. Bluetooth is not working. It shows paired but does not connect and sending/receiving file fails.
    2. Lost FM radio. Installing Spirit FM radio did not work for me. I have uninstalled it. I want the default FM radio.
    3. Cannot create groups in contact which is very critical for me. I dont want to download DW contacts as it takes huge memory.
    4. Lost the search bar on the contact tab which was very helpful.
    5. Lost the SNS sync button on contact tab.
    5. 3G takes lots of time to actually connect.

Can someone help me to fix these issues?

    ReplyDelete
  122. pk flash it with CWM recovery v4.0.0.5 and it will work.

    ReplyDelete
  123. chanchoth, I suggest you flash cm7 once again and install gapps as mentioned above. It will work. If it doesn't show even after falshing gapps, install gmail manually from google and then it wil provide you to add gmail account. If it doesn't work then too, please contact me in the Samsung Galaxy Mini Group (I guess you have joined it). I will help you further there.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Jayant D. Kulkarni, Bluetooth will work fine if you install Bluetooth File Transfer app from market.

Spirit FM works perfectly fine. Just make sure you check Debug BCM 5430 (not sure about the number, check similar option) in Debug settings in the app. Also, if Spirit FM doesn't work even after that set your region to appropriate location (or to USA) for Regional Band. Also, release of Spirit FM after 3 November is supposed not to work.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Jayant D. Kulkarni, Also for contact press menu for search and select add accounts and add your Facebook account for SNS sync.

3G don't know about it. It might not actually be the problem.

If you still are not satisfied with it then CM7 doesn't seem to be for you. You may flash GB 2.3.4 from Odin to return to stock Gingerbread.

    ReplyDelete

  127. Hi Yagya Gaire
I am pretty much satisfied with CM7. Thanks for your efforts. Bluetooth File Share worked fine. I will give try to Spirit FM. Is there any way to add record option for radio? It is not there in any of the previous versions.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Jayant D. Kulkarni, YOu got a point there you want to record the radio playback? Am I right? If yes, then I found it possible with the Hi-Q MP3 Recorder app. So, try it.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Is update-cm-7.1.0-Blade-signed.zip the latest? I read that there is MIUI radio included in that?

    Also on the site
    http://download.andro-id.net/index.php?dir=GT-S5570/Cyanogenmod/
I saw that even though update-cm-7.1.0-RC1-tass-KANG-signed-21102011.zip is latest one, the modified date shows as 20-SEP-2011. Confused which one is the latest.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Jayant D. Kulkarni, No, that is not the latest CM7 and also the morror download link on andro-id.net has been stopped to update so now you can't find latest one there. I will be updating the right updated and stable version here on this blog. So, you may simply subscribe to it's feed to get latest updates on your blog.

I tried all possible things and suggestions from different people but no luck. Is there any way to get default FM application?

    ReplyDelete
  133. Jayant D. Kulkarni, No there is no any way to get the default FM application on CM7. If selecting your region didn't work then set it to USA (I think it will work.) Also, you might need to restart the app once you changed it's settings.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Some weird thing happened today. I suddenly lost my menu button and now cannot go to application list. Is there a way to get back the meun button? It is showing star i.e. empty placeholder in the place of menu button?

    ReplyDelete
  135. Jayant D. Kulkarni, IT is not called menu button, instead it is called Launcher/App Drawer button. TO being it back, Long Press on Homescreen and you will get the option to add widget and wallpers. In that menu select Launcher actions and then choose app drawer from the list. You will get it on your desktop, drag it to it's original place and you are done. Also, you may experiment with other options available at the Launcher Actions menu (if the above one doesn't work).

    ReplyDelete
  136. That worked perfectly. Thanks a lot Yagya. CM7 is very nice and lots of things to learn. Still getting hold of it. Except FM radio most of the things are working fine. I tried your suggestions but no luck with FM.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Jayant D. Kulkarni, No, there is no harm in falshing CM7 over Gingerbread 2.3.6. So, you may go ahead and But, I can't assure that GB 2.3.6 (in itself) works on your phone or not as I have not tried it.

CM7 can be flashed on any GB 2.3.4 and above roms.

    ReplyDelete
  147. The thing is after every upgrade you need to wipe data and cache (most of the times) and that will remove all apps including Chainfire3D; so you will need to reinstall it. And, of course, I have heard of it though not used; you can search for it here and you will find more about it.

  182. You will need to be patient and wait for few minutes (about 10-15 mins.) Now if you are stuck go back to recovery wipe data and cache and flash the rom again following the instructions carefully.
