Flashing Cyanogen Mod 9 on Smasung Galaxy Pop/Mini GTS5570.

UPDATE!! Cyanogen Mod 9 - Beta 2 For Samsung Galaxy Mini is available. Click Here for more details.

Cyanogen team has been working hard on Ice Cream Sandwich based Cyanogen Mod 9 custom rom and are progressing (towards it's completion) rapidly. Thanks to the team and squadzone, a developer from xda forums as well as a member of teamhacksung, galaxy mini/pop is also getting an upgrade to it's cyanogen mod rom to version 9 from version 7. If you are (just in case) wondering where is version 8, then let me inform you that version 8 is reserved for Android 3.0 (aka Honeycomb Operating System) and will be released once Google Inc. release the source code of Honeycomb to Open Source Community. So, in this article I will tell you how you can get your hands on this juicy Ice Cream Sandwich based custom rom.

So, before you give CM9 a try let me inform you that this is a beta release (which means it is currently under development phase), so it's sure to have bugs, errors and different issues regarding stability. So, it is suggested to do a complete backup of your rom before flashing this. Also,  if you are worried about losing/bricking your phone then it is suggested you stay out of it until a more stable version of CM9 is released. Let's look at what's working and what's not (according to the developer) on this rom, before you give it a try. I have also got some screenshots of CM9 which you might want to take a look at before flashing this rom.

What's Working :
  • Keypad (Error with Android Keypad other work fine).
  • Touchscreen ( multitouch )
  • Graphics ( hack performance on kernel )
  • SD Card
  • Calls and SMS
  • Bluetooth
  • WiFi
  • Mic
  • Video
  • Audio
  • Headset (Default headset available with the device is working, others are not)
  • GPS
  • Auto Rotation Sensor (Calibration Problem)
  • Proximity Sensor
  • Vibration
  • Mobile Data
What's NOT Working :
  • USB Storage
  • Tethering
  • Camera and Gallery
  • Hardware Acceleration
So, now you that you know what's working and what's not, you are ready to flash Android 4.0.3 and give it a try. Download the rom from below and then follow the instructions thereafter to successfully flash CM9 on your galaxy pop/mini.
P.S. This is just a beta release and thus, it is sure to have bugs, errors and stability issues.
TRY IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

1. Upgrade your firmware to Gingerbread 2.3.4/2.3.6 using Odin Multidownloader v4.38.

2. Install Clock Work Mod Recovery v4.0.0.5 using Odin. Please install v4.0.0.5 as said since there is some problem flashing with CWM recovery v5.0.2.6. [Flashing with CWM recovery v5.0.2.6 worked fine for me.]
3. Copy the rom file, update-cm-9.0.0-BETA1-GalaxyMini-KANG-signed.zip, you downloaded from above to (the root directory of) your sd-card.
4. Reboot your device to Clock Work Mod Recovery (Press Home + Power Button).

5. [Optional but, Recommended] Do a Nandroid Backup of your current rom.

6. Choose Install Zip From Sd Card>>Choose Zip From SD Card option and then select the update-cm-9.0.0-BETA1-GalaxyMini-KANG-signed.zip file you downloaded from above.

7. After it finishes falshing go to CWM recovery Main Menu.

8. Select Wipe Data  and Wipe Cache options.

9. Reboot your device from CWM Recovery main menu.

Please, note that it's take some time for the first boot so, wait patiently for 5-10 minutes during the first boot.

That's it. You have successfully flashed CM9 on your device. Since, it's in beta version you are sure to find bugs and errors. Please, inform us about any bugs that you find and help the developer build an stable and bug free rom for all galaxy mini/pop gts5570 users. Also, make sure you check thoroughly and be confirmed (that it is actually a bug) before you report any errors. Your feedback is important for a the development of stable Cyanogen Mod 9 rom. You can submit your feedback at this Cyanogen Mod 9 thread on xda forum or just post them in the comments below.

  3. What if I have already installed Cyanogemod 7 on my Mini. Do I still have to flash Gingerbread again and then install Cyanogen9? Or is it possible to install Cyanogen 9 under Cyanogen 7? Hope you'll understand what I mean :)

Hopefully squadzone will release a more stable version soon, checking at XDA every 5 minuts :D

  4. Well, I too have the same question as of "Anonymous". I'm on Baseband DDKQ7 (2.3.6) with CM7 RC3. So if I'm planning to go for CM9, I just have to put the zip in SD-card right? I don't think we should again install 2.3.6 via Odin, right?

  6. coolsandie,
Yes, you are right you don't need to go back to Gingerbread rom if you already have CM7. Just wipe data and cache in recovery then flash the CM9 rom as said in the above article. :)

  12. Atish,
If you are stuck at Android Logo make sure you use CWM recovery v4.0.0.5 and you wipe data and cache after flashing the rom in recovery.

And, yup the bugs are being fixed and you will get a stable release soon (I guess, not more than a week).
