Download and Flash Latest Cyanogen Mod 7.1.0, update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyMini-KANG-signed-17112011.zip, on Galaxy Mini/Pop

Cyanogen Mod 7.1.0 for Samsung Galaxy Mini/Pop has gone through many releases in the process of its evolution into a stable build. Adding to the list is a recent build named update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyMini-KANG-signed-17112011.zip, released on November 17 which promises to fix most of the bugs available on previous releases of cyanogen mod. Along with some added features and apps in this release is the addition of various tweaks to improve the performance and speed of the rom. With these editions this rom has dropped the support of Overclocking Kernels released for previous versions of cyanogen mod. But, the developer said he will be working on OC Kernels once the rom gets stable.

Let's Look at some of the features or additions to this rom. You can find detailed descriptions of these new additions and join discussions at this thread on xda-developers forums.
  • Support two-way recording with the help of third party apps found at xda-forums.
  • Added Fontswap
  • Clean Cache with added zcache.
  • Tweaked Kernel to improve the speed and remove lags.
  • Added smart CPU which will mange the clock frequency automatically for you for successful boots after overclocking your galaxy mini gts-5570.
  • Tweaked some parts of Kernel for improved performance and decreasing lags.
  • Optimized all apks.
This was just the overview of change log for Cyanogen Mod 7.1.0 latest release. Now it's time to flash and see how good it looks in your galaxy mini. Read the instructions below carefully to flash it on your galaxy pop/mini gts5570 smartphone.

Already Have Cyanogen Mod on Your Mini? Follow these steps:

1. Download Latest Cyanogen Mod 7 from this link.

2. Copy it to the root directory of your sd-card.

3. Reboot your device to Clock Work Mod Recovery (Press Home + Power Button).

4. [Optional but, Recommended] Do a Nandroid Backup of your current rom.

5. Choose Install Zip From Sd Card>>Choose Zip From SD Card option and then select the update-cm-7.1.0-GalaxyMini-KANG-signed-17112011.zip file you downloaded from above.

6. Wait till it finishes installing the update zip and then Wipe your Cache (only) after it is done. You can also wipe data but it will delete all your apps and data so you might need to go through an extra step of restoring it from a Nandroid Backup or Titanium backup which you have made one before.

7. Reboot your device from clock work mod recovery's main menu.

Your device will boot up with latest cyanogen mod 7.1.0. Please, note that it will take some time (around 10-15 minutes) during first boot. If your phone doesn't boot even after 20 minutes try wiping your data in clockwork mod recovery and reboot again.

Are You New to Cyanogen Mod? You will have to start from beginning:

3. Follow steps 1-7 from above.

Note that you will also need to wipe data in Step 6 if you are flashing CM7 for the first time. Also, you might need to skip Step 4 since clock work mod doesn't support backups of stock roms.

Are Google Apps including Market, You Tube, Gmail, etc missing after Flashing CM7 ? Click this to get them back on your android smartphone.

This is a clean cm7 rom released for stable build so, it is obvious you will need to add additional components via flash able zips. You will need to flash latest gapps and Darktremor's APP2SD Script manually. Note that you don't have to partition your sdcard if you have partitioned it once, so only flash app2sd. One advantage with this update is you won't need to copy cifs.ko and tun.ko to /system/lib/modules folder; they are per-compiled. Also, this rom/firmware can only be overclocked upto 653 Mhz at the moment but newer Overclocking Kernels are on their way.

Overall, I will have to say it has many improvement since it's first release and is now a good time to upgrade. It has almost all bugs fixed and wifi and GPRS or 3G are also working fine on this update. The performance is improved greatly and rom is very smooth to use. Also, while installing gapps from recovery make sure you mount system and data in Mounts and Storage option of your clock work mod recovery. If you have any problems please post them in the comments below. Also, you are welcome to give your own short review of this update through the comments.

UPDATE!!! November 21 Overclocking Kernels for this latest release of cm7 are available for download. Please download and flash them if you want to overclock your galaxy mini which is running this latest release of cm7.

P.S. Don't forget to thank the developer for this awesome update to cyanogen mod. You can also seek for help at his thread on xda-developers forum.

  11. 1. Is there Enter button on the keyboard? I can't find one and I'm wondering is there a way to counter it.

    2. The battery life is much shorter than Gingerbread. Can I do something for this? (I use both Gingerbread and CWM the same way)

    ReplyDelete
  12. ardi, did I mentioned enter button above? If you mean at keyboard on your android then there is one at bottom right corner of your soft keyboard.

Also, If you get much battery life in Gingerbread then stay with it. I don't think we can longer the battery life since it is not in our hand; it depends on how many apps you run on your device in background, how often do you play games, use wifi, and many other factors. You need to choose best rom for you by yourself.

  13. chanchoth, Cache is wiped to remove any files that were copied to cache partition while during the flashing process. If you are also stock on Android Logo for long time wipe both data and cache. Not wiping data would save our files from previous installation. If you are from stock rom, you need to wipe both data and cache partitions.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Shasha, Wipe data and cache in CWM recovery if you are stuck at ANDROID logo. It will solve the problem. If not follow all the steps again and wipe both data and cache in step 6.

  15. ronelmarco, Use bluetooth file transfer app from market. I'm sure it will help you solve your problem. I realy don't know about your problem, maybe it is a bug in cm7 that hasn't been fixed yet. Let's hope to see improvement in future releases.

  16. Josh, you need to flash latest gapps from CWM recovery. If it doesn't work well even after try upgrading your market app.

    thanks a lot yagya

    ReplyDelete
  33. renoelmarco, Try these links to download/get themes for your CM7 rom. Also, you will have to set the themes from Theme Chooser app (which is installed already in CM7) once you install them on your device. Here are few links, you can search for more on xda-developers forum.

  34. Hello. First of all I would like to congratulate you for your wonderful blog, which helped me very much to get to grips with all my Samsung Mini needs.

I've upgraded from stock 2.3.5 rom to this CM 7.1 rom without any problems which is my first custom rom I flash BTW.
Now one thing that puzzles me is that when I go to Accounts & Settings -> Add Account when I put my credentials for my Google account it says on the top of the screen "You can configure an Exchange account in just a few steps", which of course it's impossible to use because I'm trying to put my Google credentials. I did not had this problem in Official rom where i would put my Google credentials and everything would sync automatically.
Is there a setting i can put to make Google account the default one? Without my Google credentials my phone is pretty much useless with this rom.
    Thank you for you time.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hello, R, I understood your problem. In Cyanogen mod you need to falsh gapps from goo-inside.me/gapps to get Google apps integration on your device. Unlike stock roms, this custom rom (cm7) doesn't have integration of Google Apps. So, this is what you do?

Download latest gapps*signed.zip from goo-inside.me/gapps and falsh it in CWM recovery. You need to mount system and data before falshing.

If you need help please look once more in the article above. I will include the needded details.

  37. i got this problem : error downloading "" there is insufficient space on the device, i'm using cm7 and do all step that u publish in here. i do install dark tremor follow your step instruction. why this happened?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anand, Don't know about it maybe you don't have any applicaiton to share it with. Try reinstalling again or try with another File Manager (root explorer).

    ReplyDelete
  39. TrueNo, I believe you get that error while downloading from the Market, it's because you have tried to download a file larger than the download cache available. Download cache is limited in our Galaxy mini and it can be moved to sd-ext using s2e easily. With darktremor a2sd I don't know if it is possible.

    ReplyDelete
  40. The actual problems is only "apk" file are not getting transferred via bluetooth(with error saying..there is no application to perform this action)and rest of the file like mp3,video are easily getting sent through bluetooth. What can be the problem Yagya bro

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anand, Try bluetooth file transfer app from market it works for sure. Also, if it doesn't there is no any way out of it. I contactacted the developer and he says bluetooth is working fine, if it doesn't for you try Bluetooth File Transfer app.

For those whom bluetooth isn't working wait for another release with the fix.

  43. hi yagya please help me when i flash this cm7 yesterday, yup i was able to successfully flash it but how come my KIES wont recognize my device anymore, plus when i try to play music e.g. MP3 files the music player wont recognize the file type, also my computer is having a hard time recognizing my device.. i mean i tried different phone but this is the only phone that cant be recognize by KIES and my PC.. thanx in advance

    ReplyDelete
  44. Zack,
You need to know that Cayanogen mod has no relation with Samsung Kies and thus your device can't be recognized with Kies after flashing Cyanogen mod. So, you can use other alternatives for the purpose like ANdroid Wifi Manager, Wondershare Mobilego and others. You can read through comments above I have discussed many times the same topic.

Also, for the music files make sure they are mp3 files and are not corrupted. Try copying them once again from PC and put them inside Media folder in your sd-card. Music player is working pretty fine. If you still can't play the songs try using alternate music player from market (PowerAMP is nice one). :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. i finally made it to work, the music file that is i dunno for some reason when i woke up this morning my computer can detect my phone already, and the music files are already recognized.. weird..

oh and one thing i dont know if you can help me with this but do you have any suggestions on what video player is good for galaxy mini i mean im planning on putting some movies in it i tried qq player, mobo player but they dont work... thanx in advance

    ReplyDelete
  46. i heard that official GB(2.3.6) is released...can u post step by step process.........

    ReplyDelete
  47. Zack,
I'm glad everything went fine. About the video player the one you tried were the bests of all. If they don't serve your purpose then I don't think your task/purpose can be fulfilled in Galaxy Mini smartphone. However, you can try many other apps found in market and test your luck. Who knows, there might be a hidden possibility? Good Luck.

  49. @Yagya: yup I know too that these players are the best players out there, do i need to convert my HD movies?.. what the best converter out there?.. coz evrytime im playing videos on these players still they cant be played.. :(

    ReplyDelete
  50. Zack, there are many such video converter apps available out there and I probably don't know which one is the best (I think I haven't even tried a fraction of them). Anyway, one that comes in my mind right now is Real Player, it lets you choose for which device you want to convert the videos or mp3 too and convert it to suitable format. However, I haven't also tried it for Smasung devices (only Ipod).

    ReplyDelete
  54. TheThrid,
Yes, it is completly safe to upgrade to CM7 even if you have GB 2.3.6. Simply follow above steps adn you will have CM7 up adn running in no time.

  57. TheThird,
Make sure you use CWM recovery v4 and not the latest one, it has problem flashing a rom. Then after it flash the rom again and wipe data and cache and reboot your device. I am sure it will boot up fine.

    ReplyDelete
  58. tnx yagya..can you give me a link for CWM recovery V4??? thanks i hope this will be fine..

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thethird,
The link to CWM v4 is available in the article Installing CWM recovery on galaxy pop. Please search for it somewhere here in the blog or follow the link from above http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/09/installing-clock-work-mod-recovery-in.html

BTW, looks like CM7's messaging setting is fixed while composing a message..is it always in Dictionary Mode???

    ReplyDelete
  63. TheThird,
I don't get what you are talking about. Messaging app is working fine. Sorry, I don't know about dictionary mode?

    ReplyDelete
  64. I mean, when composing message..you get this predictive texting...get it???

    ReplyDelete
  65. Thethird,
You can turn off the predictive suggestions in the settings in Locale and Text Settings. Select your keyboard from there and manage the settings as per your requirement. If you are using Samsung Keypad, you should uncheck XT9 in Samsung keypad settings in locale and text SEttings.

    ReplyDelete
  66. solved it yagya...

BTW, after installing different apps, i notice that the system becomes slower...i usually terminate running apps but what can you recommend for a faster system????

    ReplyDelete
  67. TheThird,
Some lag is expected if you install more apps since they consume space and some even use run 24/7 in background as services. So, we can't do much. However, one thing you can do is check for apps which have a running services and try to remove such apps when possible.

Also, you can try overclocking your device, it will increase your device MAX CPU frequency so you will feel less lag. :) Also, note it is not a super computer or something so lag is normal. it has got just 256 MB Ram, and 600 Mhz CPU.

    ReplyDelete
  68. i am in cm7 can i flash a custom rom over it??

    ReplyDelete
  69. sumeer,
Yes, you can flash custom rom over custom rom/cm7.

ALso, the one told above is latest, stable CM7.1.0 rom. However, another CM7.2.0 RC roms are also available that you can download from Tools and Utilities section and then flash it as above.

Also, for usb tether or wifi tethering, use Wired tether and wireless tether app from market/Google resp. It works fine with these apps. Do, let me know if you have further queries.

  70. Hello All there,

I had een easy nightshift and took the courage to flash my galaxy mini. Risking to loose my little smartphone... But i didn't! Cynanogenmod runs fine. One little flaw: it hangs on google maps (te latest version from the market). I tried Maps(Brut) version (an older version): no problems anymore!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Ashish Kotnala and Jovin,
As I haved said in my previous replies it's just a matter of personal taste. However, CM7 RC4 seems to be better than 17112011 since it has few more features and is improved version of CM7 17112011.zip. So, got for it.

  75.  now i use chocobread, can i flash to cynogen mod 7??

  76. Please don't ask the same question again and again. I already told you you can do so. so go ahead and flash any rom you like.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Do i have to clock my phone to 800 mghz for cyannogen mode??

    ReplyDelete
  78. No, you don't need to overclock. Overclocking is totally optional and it is for those who want more power from their poor little galaxy mini.

    ReplyDelete
  79. is the installing procedure of cyanogenmod 7.2 RC 4 same as that of cm7.1?

    ReplyDelete
  80.  why wifi problem?

    ReplyDelete
  81. Yes, just download RC4 FROM roms and Utilities page and them flash it as you flash this room. Just replace the 7.1 ROM here with RC4 one.

    ReplyDelete
  82. There is no any wifi problem. It might be because your MAC is changed randomly. You can configure your router to disable MAC filtering and you should get connected. However, in this version I don't have MAC changing problem. Why don't you try to reflash the rom again from the beginning (starting from flashing fresh GB)? Since, it might solve your problem.

  86. Hi yagya. If i installed CWM and cyanogen 7 and later want to revert back to 2.3.6 in GT S5570 how should i do this?. I have read many articles and some says it can't be done while there are others who says it can be done. I am so confused to install CWM. Please help.

    ReplyDelete
  87. To get back you simply follow the same steps you did while upgrading to GB 2.3.6 (i.e. Flash GB rom via Odin ) and your phone will be as good as new. You can always revert to GB (but not to Froyo) so don't get confused.

    ReplyDelete
  88. But there is discussion in XDA that the recovery mode(home+power) is overtaken by CWM rather than stock recovery. So I am confused on it. Does Flashing again with GB 2.3.6 removes CWM recovery?

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yes, falashing again with GB 2.3.6 completely leaves you with a phone as good as when you just bought it from the store. It removes all custom roms and recovery as well as deletes all you internal data, so be careful.

    ReplyDelete
  90. It isn't working on my phone. i've tried it 4 times. what can i do now??

  116. Any rom that is not from samsung is known as custom rom. Generally samsung roms are called (official or stock) firmwares but rom and firmware are used interchangeably for easiness. Most of the roms here that doesn't have Samsung/Official keywords in the title are custom rom. Also, custom rom has lable Flashing Custom roms so that it will be easier for you to recognize them.

Custom roms are modified form of stock ones and thus have more features and probably are better than stock; but it is not true always.
