It has been a while since the developer, squadzone, updated his Cyanogen Mod build; otherwise it was only the other day before we got updates. And, as the proverb runs "Whatever happens, happens for the best", it turned out to be quite helpful for me since I got some time to re-design my blog and make it look much better in the mean time. You can find more information about what's changed at this article. But, finally today we have an update for his latest Cyanogen Mod 7.2.0 RC5.5 custom rom and these updates are major ones so I thought of writing a whole new post to inform you about them. I have also managed to flash these updates on my Samsung Galaxy Pop and have got some screenshots of CM7.2 RC5.5 rom along with the updates at this article. I suggest you go through them before proceeding.
So, this time we have got two updates for both system and kernels. And this time the changes include both addition of new features as well as removal of some other features; I believe it is so since the developer found these features unnecessary and obsolete. For more details on what's changed please view the changelog below :
9. Reboot your device from your recovery main menu.
So, that's all. You have flashed both update system and kernel zips for latest Cyanogen Mod 7.2.0 RC5.5 custom rom and your Samsung Galaxy Pop/Mini GT-S5570 smartphone is now up-to date with the latest features of CM7.2 rom. Now, search around the CM parts and check out all the cool features listed at the change log above. And once you are done with looking around please take some time to share this article with your friends as well as share you views with others at the comment-form below. P.S. You can find more information as well as say thanks to the developer at this thread on xda-developers forum.

So, now that you know what's changed and improved, it's time to flash this custom rom and test it on your android device. Get prepared and then follow the simple instructions from below.
Disclaimer : Do It At Your Own Risk!
Note : Those who have Gingerbread OS and any Custom Recovery installed on their device can skip Step 1 and Step 2. Also, those who have any custom rom installed can skip both Step 1 and 2.
2. Install any custom recovery available for Samsung Galaxy Mini/Pop. You may either have Clock Work Mod Recovery or RZ Recovery - any is fine.
3. Download the two updates (both required) from below or from Roms and Utilities page.
- update-kernel-system-cm-7.2.0-RC5.5.zip
- update-second-kernel-system-cm-7.2.0-RC5.5.zip (Link Fixed !)
Note : Though it is not necessary, I suggest you get CM7.2 RC5.5 rom installed on your galaxy pop/minii before you flash these updates as recommended by the developer.
4. Copy the downloaded files to the (root directory of) your sd-card.
5. Reboot your device to Custom Recovery (Press Home + Power Button).
6. [Optional but, Recommended] Do a Nandroid Backup of your current rom.
7. Flash both the zips one after another. Make sure you flash the first update (update-kernel-system-cm-7.2.0-RC5.5.zip) first and then the another one. Follow the steps as below :
- Choose Install Zip From Sd Card>>Choose Zip From SD Card option and then select the file you downloaded from above using Home button and wait for it to be flashed. Install another one similarly.
- Note : If you are using RZ Recovery instead, choose Install Menu>>Select update-kernel-system-cm-7.2.0-RC5.5.zip you downloaded>>Select Wipe Data and Wipe Cache>>Choose Install [*update 1] and wait till it is flashed. After it is done repeat the steps for second update too.
Calibration for what? There is no such option within the settings, I guess. So, use any apps from market for that purpose.
ReplyDeleteI am using this latest rom as for now.
KSM Stands for Kernel Mod Setting and it means setting up the screen resolution and depth mode for the graphics card at Kernel space. Search Wikipedia for more information.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it has been done till now for galaxy mini, but it might be possible to do so.
ReplyDeletehorizontal calibration sir yagya..i cant found this
ReplyDeleteHi Yagya. Can you check the link of
ReplyDeleteupdate-kernel-system-cm-7.2.0-RC5.5.zip? I could not download from this link. Thanks.
Whether i loss my data and installed application after wiping data& cache?
ReplyDeleteYes, you will lose your apps and data after wiping it. So, do a backup as said in Step 6.
ReplyDeletehey yagya, is there miui rom patched for galaxy mini ?
ReplyDeleteas for the sd ext partition, do i need to repartition my sdcard and reflash the darktremor before i flash this update kernels?
ReplyDeleteand btw i really like your blog!! followed and read ur thread for a while to get me my very own first custom rom ! keep us informed :-D †ђąηk ўσυ
ReplyDeleteYes, that option is removed from CM rom. But, why do you need it, our device is already calibrated.
ReplyDeleteYou can search for apps in market for this if you want it.
It's working pretty fine. Please have a look again.
ReplyDeleteNo, there is no any MIUI patched rom for galaxy mini at the moment. I will keep you updated if it is available at some point of time.
ReplyDeletethanks for the quick response, anyway atleast can i have the lock button as the camera shutter.
ReplyDeleteHey Wiping Data Means 2 Wipe My Full SD CARD ?? or It Only Wipes Inbuild Syste Data Reply PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
ReplyDeleteGo to camera settings (press menu while camera is open) and then select the option there for that. I think it works but not quite well. You will understand what I mean, just give it a try.
ReplyDeleteYagya, why is that in the notification dock is transparent? How do I fix this. I both install the updates.
ReplyDeleteNp need to wipe sd-card. Wiping data is the option in main clockwork mod menu wipes our system partitions and sd-ext partition (if you have one). But, it doesn't remove your files in sd-card.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you have set Notification Status Bar to transparent in CM Settings-->>Interface-->>Status Bar Tweaks-->>Notification Drop down bar and set it Rom; also try with other options.
ReplyDeletehelp! after restoring my back up. my phone keeps in booting to recovery, so i did was clearing datas and caches but after that my phone stucks at android logo. i cleared the data again and the reflashing thing but nothing change. what should i do?
ReplyDeleteproblem solved.. btw what gapps are you using with this rom. gapps20120215 seems not compatible, i cant connect to market, and theres no gmaps. if thats the case maybe the old rc5.5 is better.
ReplyDeleteHello everybody,
ReplyDeleteCan anybody tell me if this update comes with s2e preinstalled?
The last times I've tried to use it didn't work out, because it caused android market to fail.
Can you confirm that it is working now?
Cheers
Mobile Data is not working. what should i do?
ReplyDeleteSorry for the later reply... gapps 20110828 zip file is working pretty fine for me. You just have to flash the gapps in recovery after you flash the rom for it to work well. Also, I thin the gapps you mentioned is only for Ice Cream Sandwich roms not GBs. So, find gapps for gb at this site and flash them (use search to find items).
ReplyDeleteNo, it doesn't come preinstalled on Cyanogen Mod rom. If you want s2e pre-installed rom then go for emanon rom. However, I have been using s2e on this latest CM7 rom for quite a while now and it's working fine.
ReplyDeleteJust follow the instructions at the s2e article and you will be fine. Give it a go again.
Configure your APN settings in Wireless and Networks--> Mobile Data settings.
ReplyDeleteHey! I prefer the status bar at the top like other ROMs and previous versions of CM.
ReplyDeleteSo... is it possible to keep the status bar at the top position in CM7.2 RC5.5?
Thank you!
that means ics is for ice cream sandwich hahah sorry. glad im learning a few things while staying updated in your blog. im just wondering when will they fix the sim toolkit
ReplyDeleteI'm having problems with my google account and the market, i can't log in
ReplyDeletehey yagyag i think the enter key on the keyboard does not work
ReplyDeleteFlash google apps in CWM recovery. http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/12/how-to-flash-google-apps-on-your.html
ReplyDeleteMaybe.. I haven't quite noticed that. I use swype keyboard, you can also try another one.
ReplyDeletethe other line cant here me when using headset. back at cm7 rc5.3 il wait for another release... btw. is there any update for cm9? that is not beta? another one yagya, can u help me with my prob with cm7 rc5.5? my launcher always force close. and i cant turn on my usb storage. it closes then restarts my phone... tnx
ReplyDeletethe other line cant here me when using headset. back at cm7 rc5.3 il wait for another release... btw. is there any update for cm9? that is not beta? another one yagya, can u help me with my prob with cm7 rc5.3? my launcher always force close. and i cant turn on my usb storage. it closes then restarts my phone... tnx
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your information Yagya. Can you say that you prefer s2e to a2sd?
If so why?
You said on another post that one should first install the apps and only afterwards install s2e (at least that's how I read it... correct me if I'm wrong). But that didn't make much sense to me: because the total size of my apps didn't fit on the internal memory... besides if I wanted to install something after installing s2e how should I do it? Uninstall s2e first, install the app afterwards and only then re-installing s2e?
I have an ext3 sd-ext partition, which is now about one GB, could that be the origin of my problem with s2e (I mean the sd-ext being an ext3 file system???)
What file system is yours (sd-ext)?
Finally, everything is working fairly well with a2sd, so there must be something 'fishy' on my side... I am using a 2 partition micro-sd card of 16GB of which the first one is a NTFS of about 15GB,,,
(I do not recall which 'class' is it but I can tell later on).
Sorry for writing all these 'testaments' but I couldn't make more clearer yet..
Cheers on the looks of this blog. It is now very interesting visually, besides being utterly handy and useful.

Cris
Note: On another post here at the blog (http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2012/01/cyanogen-mod-720-rc5-for-samsung-galaxy.html ), I've asked you about s2e issues. It was then when I started using the mzclmn alias. There are times the interface I am using prevents me from using the google account so I use disqus' one instead. Sorry for the noobish clumsiness...
Try to do a clean flash. Backup everything and then flash the two update and wipe data and cache and reboot your device.
ReplyDeleteYES THERE IS is one awsome application"LG CAMERA" It is an application by which we can increase our Video resolution to 640*480 and choose the format to MP4.By this application we can greatly improve the video quality of our galaxy mini.
ReplyDeleteHey Yagya, Overall it looks good with following few issues I faced.
ReplyDelete1. Market force closes many times. I have wiped data and cache twice and installed gapps. But this did not solve the issue. Also few application like talking tom cat force close suddenly. I even observed few a reboots of the phone.
2. Even though I set to play notification, alarm, ring tones always on speaker it does not work. Any help or workaround?
Otherwise things look good.
my phone is stuck at cyanogenmod logo .what should i do
ReplyDelete??
Installed this ROM with updates!!..
ReplyDeleteFacing frequent battery drain... as compared to stock 2.3.6
Am i the only one with this problem?
For the point no 1. I don't have such force close even though I am having this very latest updates. Make sure you don't overclock your device to a high frequency as well as you are not using s2e or a2sd to move download cache to sd-ext partitions. If you are restoring from your previous backup then it might be the problem, try clearing cache and data in Application Manger.
ReplyDeleteGo through the comments here... It's discussed many time that you ought to go back to recovery and then flash the rom again if you are stuck at Cyanogen Mod Logo.
ReplyDeleteThe battery drain may not be as prefect to stock roms, however it's quite good. It also depends upon your configuration that how much battery drains. Check you configs, turn off wifi and 3G when not in use, adjust brightness, use CPU at normal frequency.
ReplyDeleteWell Chris, disqus is perfectly fine and I even recommend making a good profile in discuss so that you can comment here as well as on many other sites with ease and simplicity.
ReplyDeleteSo, on to the topic. You seem to be confused. I suggest you forget everything and wait for my next post. I will try to explain in a very detailed way incl. the differences between a2sd and s2e and other queries that you and other might have in a blog post within few days of time if it is okay with you.
Also, I am going to be quite busy with my other works for a few months from now so, you might not get prompt reply. In the mean time, you can ask for other queries that you have regarding a2sds so that I can include them in the article too. Also, If you need any immediate help you can find me at http://facebook.com/yagyagaire
Thanks Yagya for the reply. I have reduced the OC frequency and let me check. What about second point? Is this a bug that notification, ringtone, alarm does not play on speaker when headset is connected?
ReplyDeleteHey yagya.. all my settings are tweaked.. low brightness.. no wifi..
ReplyDeleteI even tried to callibrate the battery stats but still nuthin changed..
I charge my fone till 100% and the after 20 seconds it goes down to 80 sumthin..
And one more problem i face is wit the network bars.. even though the network connection is gud it does not show any bars.. is this a bug??
And while ur at it.. can u suggest me a super stable cyanogenmod build please..
thankyou
Yes, that's probably a bug. It doesn't seem to work fine at the moment. Maybe later revisions will fix it.
ReplyDeleteHey yagya
ReplyDeleteThis rom works great but I want to know if I could add home key and menu key options on notifications bar....I only hav back key option right now...
Also can I install gapps you said in other article for cm7 onto my cm7.2_5.5
hey yagya
ReplyDeletei installled the updates and its workin successfully.
but i want to know how can i get home and menu options on notifications bar too...
also want to know if i can install gapps you said in other article of cm7 onto my cm7.2_5.5
Yes, you can install those gapps only. Installing other might not work. To get home and other soft buttons, go to Cyanogen Settings and then Tablet tweaks and then choose sky buttons and select home button there.
ReplyDeleteYou can also search here for video of CM7 roms , there I have shown how to do this asking with other settings too.
when i play games my car goes right. i can't controlled and i can't find the horizontal calibration so i can play motion sensor games
ReplyDeleteI don't know about that. Doodle Jump which is probably a motion sensor games in your term works fine on my device. I don't play much games so don't know about it.
ReplyDeleteI suggest you switch to emanon rom if you don't like Cyanogen Mod.
thanks yagya ...
ReplyDeletebut after installing gapps and rebooting the pacman dont opens.instead i get force close.......then i reinstalled it but this time no market option is shown and nothing happens....what to do now?
Go to Accounts and Sync and add Google account manually. Follow steps carefully at my article about flashing google apps and you will get it.
ReplyDelete"UIDs on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable" error message came after normal reboot.I am using Cm7 RC5.5 and not flashed this latest update. After wiping data it became OK. Why that came?, whether there is chance for coming this error again.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure why those came... But, these errors should not come again after you do a clean installation of latest CM7 rom.
ReplyDeletehi yagya, may i ask u a favour to ask squadzone or any xda member to verify the cm7 update rc 5.6 that i found from the lilg updater app that guided me to this link http://www.mediafire.com/?eea1jczr1lzxvqo
ReplyDeleteI'm downloading it now but i can't see the official post release in the xda thread about this latest update.
is it just ok for me to flash this rc5.6? as i really need the update coz this rc5.5 not allowed me to run some game app, unlike when i use cm7 rc0 by mebtex.
but for the ui and stable
Hello sir, i used 5.5 on 2.3.6(india) nd after using some days it became unstable so i flashed 2.3.4(XXKPI , european) nd then flashed cm7 rc5.5 on it. Its working but the most wiered problem is that whenever i flash the two updates nd wipe data nd cache my phone stucks at 'ANDROID' logo only... It also happnd in 2.3.6.. What should i do? Plzzzz suggest something sir.. :-(
ReplyDeleteI should also tell u that i started using cm7 with rc5.5 version only,,, plzz help
ReplyDeleteWhich CWM recovery version are you using? I suggest you to use v4.0.0.5 and not the latest one and try it again, it will work fine. Also, you will need to wait for a while at the first boot.
ReplyDeleteHey yagya, i see from the article above, the sim toolkit has received some minor updates. before i flash these updates could you pliz elaborate on the extent of this minor changes? Thanks alot.
ReplyDeleteI did it on v4.0.5 only.. i even tried it on v5.0.2.7.. I also waited
ReplyDeletefor approx. 15min but nothing happens even the android logo does not
appear..
The sim toolkit feature doesn't work for now. It's there but, It seems I can't access it. However, other things are pretty fine and the rom works quite well.
ReplyDeleteThanks yagya, the updates are working well....well what is nandroid backup
ReplyDeleteTry flashing any other rom first and see if it works.
ReplyDeleteNandroid backup is a complete backup of your device along with system, boot and recovery backups. If you click on the link on Step 4, it will take you to a post with more details about it.
ReplyDeletereally really great rom hats off to you man yagya you doing really great gived look to my galaxy mini tablet
ReplyDeletesir, any problems regarding battery draining? my battery drains soo fast. any fix on this?
ReplyDeleteIt depends upon your settings... Make sure you disable data and wifi when not is use. Also, it's good to set Minimum CPU frequency to 122 MHz in Performance settings.
ReplyDeleteHow to take Nandroid backup by Rafeek, mail id rafraf77@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI suggest you flash latest RC5.6 or RC5.7 rom. It should solve your problem. It seems Total commander's license has been expired (maybe it was a trail app).
ReplyDeleteYagya, i followed your recommendation by flashing RC5.6 but still wifi is not working. I have two bars but still no luck. I haven't tried RC5.7. Also, total commander is absent, but its ok, i have apk of it from their website. Any advice why 5.5 and 5.6 wifi did not work in my mini?
ReplyDeleteAre you unable to connect to a network or browse something in the web? Sometimes it is a problem with your stock rom base (baseband). Make sure you have latest version of GB installed (for your region). and then flash CM7 over it.
ReplyDeleteI'm having no problem of wifi, so I can't figure out what is wrong with your device.
Hello Yagya, is necesary do the wiped data and cache data after instaled the RC 5.5 ? because don't want loses my data from aplications. sorry for my english, I am from Costa Rica
ReplyDeleteThis article should explain your queries : http://smartandroidsolutions.blogspot.com/2012/03/why-is-it-needed-to-wipe-data-and-cache.html
ReplyDeleteGo through it and ask me if you have any doubts.
Yes Yagya, I'm unable to connect nor browse in the web. I'm using 2.3.4 S5570DXKPD before flashing CM7. Planning to use 2.3.6 S5570DXKPD, just saw in samfirmware. BTW, can I really use other baseband from other country? I haven't tried it before. One more thing, when I used RC5.5 and RC5.6, I noticed that bluetooth recognition (from pc to mini) is slower than stock 2.3.4..just wondering a newbie for CM7.Thanks.
ReplyDeleteConsider upgrading if an update is available. And, yes you can use firmware from other regions too (just don't use Providers Firmwares). Also, few minors errors are expected as Cyanogenmod are unofficial ports. Try the official CM7.2 (search here) and you'll find it much more stable and smooth. Have fun, read through comments and articles here to learn more. You can also join discussions at the community, at my facebook page and at galaxy mini group.

Hello Yagya, I finally made it. Just following some steps on the web, remove battery and wait for about 5 mins, I succeeded to connect to wifi. BTW, Im using XXKPI baseband RC 5.7, some at XDA said it was a fast rom. It is so easy to follow the steps you made. Thank you very much for replying.
