Cyanogen Mod 9.0.0 RC0 GalaxyICS Alpha 3 For Galaxy Ace GT-S5830.

UPDATE!!! Cyanogen Mod 9 Beta 3 For Galaxy Ace.

It has almost been few months since the Cyanogen Team started working on the latest Android 4.0.3 based Cyanogen Mod 9 custom rom for various android smart phones out there. And hopefully they have got quite far with this project as we can see some of the unofficial ports out there that are working fine for the most parts. And, the astonishment is on the fact that latest Ice Cream Sandwich based CM9 is also working quite fine on some of the low-end android devices (those that probably won't get official update to ICS) out there. Similar is the with Samsung Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 smartphone which is getting one of the best ICS build ( I have noticed) till now; thanks to Maclaw and his development team. Their effort seems to be not only building an stable CM9 rom for galaxy ace instead for other Galaxy series variants such as Mini, GIO, Galaxy 5, etc in the name of GalaxyICS.

After two alpha builds, this latest alpha 3 version of Cyanogen Mod 9 has improved so much that most features of the rom are working fine. This is what the developer has to say:
MOST THINGS WORKS, ROM WORKING NICE.
I CAN USE IT EVERYDAY, BUT DO FULL CWM BACKUP BEFORE YOU FLASH IT!

So, let's look at what's working and what's not on this latest ICS build for galaxy ace smartphone.

Home Screen - ICS or Cyanogen Mod 9
What's working?
  • Boots fine.
  • GSM (Phone/Messaging/GPRS/EDGE/3G)
  • WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and other radios
  • HW Acceleration (works fully)
  • Sound, Headphones, etc.
  • All sensors (proximity, rotation, accelerometer, magnetic etc)
  • Cyanogen Mod Settings (Not all are working since CyanogenMod team hasn't merged all the settings in the official build yet.)
  • Market (Now you can download and install all apps available for GB)
  • Fixed animations (now it looks so good).
  • Facebook sync or SNS account.
  • BLN support
  • G-Mail fully works.
  • Browser fully works.
  • ICS keyboard.
  • Games - works as smoothly as on Gingerbread.
What's not working?
  • Camera
So, these are the things currently working on GalaxyICS port. So, let's give this latest CyanogenMod 9.0.0-RC0-GT-S5830-GalaxyICS-KANG-alpha3 rom a try on your galaxy ace gt-s5830 smartphone. Simply follow the instructions from below to get this on your device. Please don't skip any steps to flash this rom without any error.

Disclaimer : TRY IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Note : Those who have Gingerbread 2.3 and above firmware and any Custom Recovery installed on their device can skip Step 1 and Step 2. Also, if you have any other custom roms then you can skip both Step 1 and Step 2.

3. Download CM9 RC0 GalaxyICS Kang Alpha 3 (cm9_galaxyics-ace-ota-eng.maju-alpha3.zipfrom Galaxy Ace downloads section in Roms and Utilities page.

4. Copy the downloaded file to ( the root directory of) your sd-card.

5. Reboot your device to Clock Work Mod Recovery (Press Home + Power Button).

6. [Optional but, Recommended] Do a Nandroid Backup of your current rom.

7. Choose Install Zip From Sd Card>>Choose Zip From SD Card option and then select the, cm9_galaxyics-ace-ota-eng.maju-alpha3.zip, file you downloaded from above.

8. Wait few minutes for the rom to be flashed and once it is done; Wipe Data and Wipe cache from clockwork mod recovery main menu. Also, Wipe Dalvik cache in Advance recovery menu.

9. Reboot your device from your recovery main menu when everything is done.

So, that's all. You now have latest Cyanogen Mod 9 rom on your Galaxy Ace GT-S5830 smartphone and are ready to get the taste of the amazing (and yummy :D) Ice Cream Sandwich. Take some time and look around the various parts and features of this custom rom. You will notice that this one is quite different that any of the previous roms you have used since, this is based on latest Android 4.0 Operating System announced by Google back in October, last year. So, once you get the hang of this and have tested or tried it enough then please do share a short review of this rom at the comments below so that other users can know more about this custom rom before actually flashing it. P.S. Also, if you like this rom then don't forget to say thanks to the developer as well as look for more info at this thread on xda-developers forum.

  3. Thaks, very useful guide, works perfectly for me.

  4. No, not for now. It is currently only for ace and GIO devices only but I am quite sure this development will benefit mini users too but may be at a later time period.

  5. It should boot within 5-15 minutes during the first time and then normally afterwards. If it doesn't still boot up fine then go back to clock work mod recovery and then wipe everything (data, cache, dalvik) and flash the ROM again and then reboot your device.

  6. Cool !
I have been following the discussion on XDA forum about this ROM.
Recently Rooted my Ace and flashed it with CM 7.2 ROM, loving its experience, when I'll get bored of it will try CM 9 and hopefully at that time it will become a stable ROM too.
    Thanks for sharing post.

  7. yagya, there is an important step that you missed out...becaude of which people MAY get stuck at boot screen...
you have to mount and format /system before flashing...
I am a galaxy fit user, but formatting system is necessry for me to successfully flash any cm based rom...

so maybe you can see if it helps others to get past the boot screen... :-)
